Kitzbühel um 1920 (Detail)

CITY & TOWN

The artist’s stylistic development can be clearly observed in his city motifs. Going beyond the city scenes of his early work, the artist’s depressed state of mind in the post-war period is evident in the pictures ‘City in Melting Snow’ which he painted in an expressionictic style. In the 1920s, in the wake of the emergence of tourism, of winter sports, one can observe new hope. The hometown of Kitzbühel shines again in sunny splendour.
